Leadership

We need to get real about leadership…

DISD needs leaders who have the courage to make decisions based not on personalities, politics and personal agendas, but rather on what is best for the children we are charged with educating and the taxpayers who pay for it. We need leaders who can look at the big picture, think outside-the-box, and build consensus rather than conflict.

I WILL WORK TO:

  • close the revolving door to the superintendent’s office. We’ve had 4 permanent and several interim superintendents in the past 10 years.  Each time we change superintendents, we change the entire upper management team. With that kind of turnover, it’s amazing we’ve accomplished anything at all.
  • develop a sustainability model for every department that will last beyond the latest management team.
  • revise our search/hiring practices for the next superintendent. Instead of a big contract with a golden parachute at the other end, we need a base salary with incentive raises for reaching real goals.
  • change the public perception of  DISD by strictly adhering to a strong ethics policy at every level of the organization.
